Virtual Schools

Virtual Schools: From Rivalry to Partnership

This article focuses on the need for traditional schools to partner with virtual schools to allow students more options for their learning.  We are constantly saying that students lose information during summer months and during breaks and virtual school would be a great alternative for students to be able to have access to.

In Florida, where I currently teach, virtual school is offered in grades K-12.  In high school, students are required to take at least one virtual class as part of their graduation requirements.  I can definitely see the benefits of having virtual school options.  I have had students this year with severe medical conditions that cannot be at school and they have left face-to-face school to attend virtual school.  Time management and commitment are huge when deciding on taking online classes, however, dedicated students can be successful and I think it is a great alternative for students to have.

  1. I think it is a great idea to require students to take at least one virtual class to graduate. More and more students are taking virtual classes at the college level so they should be prepared for it.

  2. I also think this is a great idea. Traditional and virtual schools should work together. In the day and age that we are in it is definatly beneficial for students to know and understand how virtual learning works. My school has also had students who were home bound due to illness but there is no option for them to join a virtual school here and therefore missed out on a lot education oppertunities.
